Getting to Italy Lake is not for the faint of heart. There is a grueling backpacking hike of 15 miles, nearly
5000 feet of vertical climbing, and all that combined with altitude and what it can do to your body. Hitting
the gym for several months before this adventure will potentially minimize the effects of this strenuous trip.
At the end of the upward trek, lies beauty beyond description and willing Golden trout to take just about
anything you tie on.
Dry/dropper techniques are the way to go, or even a double dry fly rig can entice these colorful trout to the
surface. If you are fast enough to set the hook you will lose track of how many Goldens you've caught
before 10am.
