The Truckee River flows out of Lake Tahoe on the north end of the lake. It flows 110 miles to Pyramid
Lake in Nevada. This section of the Truckee should not be confused with the Upper Truckee that flows
into Lake Tahoe on the south end of the lake.
The Truckee is home for rainbows, browns, mountain whitefish and the native Lahontan Cutthroat. Recent
years have seen attempts at re-stocking this famous trout to it's historical range.
Historically, the Truckee River was home to the Lahontan Cutthroat. They grew to behemoth sizes, in some
cases up to 30 pounds. But only recently have there been attempts at it's re-introduction.
The Truckee River is a very popular river to fish, so expect to have company. This can make for a very
challenging day on the water. Because of the increased traffic, the fish are used to seeing a lot of imitations
and can make for a challenging day of angling.
